The process of European integration, having primarily started as a way of achieving political stability and peace, became a major force towards reaping the benefits of economic integration. The creation of first a customs union and then a single European market were major projects to realize these potentials for growth. Still, Europe has not been able to close the historical productivity gap relative to the US. For a long time the performance of several European economies, including the biggest economies in the eurozone, has been disappointing. Globalization, unemployment, enlargement, the economic and social consequences of an ageing population provide new challenges. On the other hand, the assessment of European growth performance depends also on measurement and comparisons and can vary accordingly.

The Maastricht Graduate School of Governance invites you to participate in its international, research related and policy oriented summer school in Governance and Social Protection. The Summer School is organized every other year and is part of the PhD program in Social Protection Policy.

Up to 12 papers will be selected for presentation during the paper sessions. For participants whose paper is accepted for presentation, the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance will cover the participation fee, travel and accommodation costs.
