Innovation

Open Pathways to Learning is an organization that provides therapy to people suffering from learning disorders. This is done via an innovative technique called ‘Brain Integration’. In essence, this technique helps people overcome their learning challenges by correcting misrouting, improper timing, and blockage of information flow within the brain. This achieves sustainable results in terms of improved memory and concentration; overcoming difficulties in spelling, math and reading; enabling self-management and multi-tasking, and helping in stress-management and emotion control.

Crossinology’s® Brain Integration Technique was developed in 1988 by Susan McCrossin. The basic premise of the techniques is to rid individuals of the learning stresses thereby unlocking the full potential of the brain. This is done by identifying individual brain stress patterns affecting learning and applying physiology and acupressure to remove these stress patterns. A team of teachers, tutors, psychologists and health professionals work together to help the client.

People with learning disorders have decreased blood flow in the areas of their brain responsible for specific tasks such as reading or math. When proper blood flow is restored to the part of the brain that is related to the learning dysfunction the brain is able to operate properly and the learning difficulty is corrected. Hence, the treatment starts with an assessment that identifies the brain’s processing strengths and weaknesses. Based on the individual’s needs a step by step process is followed to assess, balance and free up neural pathways. Muscle testing, an applied physiological technique to determine if the muscle can resist downward pressure, is used as a biofeedback tool to gauge if certain neural pathways are blocked. Acupressure using light pressure of fingertips is then applied to restore blood-flow to information-processing and problem-solving circuitry in the brain. On an average tangible progress can be experienced in total therapy time of 10 to 15 hours. The final outcome is the lessening or complete elimination of that learning disorder.
 

Impact

Tangible benefits to clients include increase in learning ability, mental performance, emotional stability, creativity, physical coordination, and relief or elimination of brain related symptoms such as ADD, ADHD, and Dyslexia.

Students who do not possess extreme symptoms have also benefited from the organization’s services to overcome common everyday difficulties with things like test anxiety, shyness, insecurity, physical awkwardness, mood swings, restlessness and eye strain. Working professionals have leveraged this to dramatically improve in things like remembering people’s names and faces, overcoming procrastination and poor time management difficulties, becoming more self-confident, and self-initiated. Another group who has benefitted is athletes who have achieved higher performance by enhanced motor skills and left/right brain integration.
