OneWorld Health is the first nonprofit pharmaceutical company in the
United States dedicated to developing drugs for so called “orphan
diseases”, which have been eradicated in the West, and thus have no
profit potential as business ventures. In this digital story,
originally prepared for the 1st International Online Conference on
Business as an Agent of World Benefit, Moli Steinert, then the
development director for the company, talked about an innovative
business model that is at the core of the company’s operations.
OneWorld Health receives donations from for-profit pharmaceutical
companies in a form of drug leads that have little commercialization
potential in the West, develops leads into safe and effective
medicines, and then partners with scientists and manufacturers of the
developing world to bring the medicine to the consumers at the
affordable price. Moli Steinert developed the visuals for the story,
and provided the narrative.
