Global Forum “Business as an Agent of World Benefit: Management Knowledge Leading Positive Change” was convened by the Academy of Management, Case Weatherhead School of Management, and the United Nations Global Compact on October 22nd-25th, 2006 at Case Western Reserve University and online. The Forum brought together top business leaders and educators to focus on ways of doing, researching, and teaching business that is both profitable and successful in addressing the world’s most pressing social needs. "The Future of Management Education at the Intersection of Business and Society: Designing the School Within the School for Business as an Agent of World Benefit", a three day summit hosted by BAWB in conjunction with the Aspen Institute , was held October 19-21, 2005 using the Appreciative Inquiry technique to rethink and recreate management education to include corporate social responsibility and sustainability issues. BAWB Online Conferences of 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 brought together over 2000 people from 60+ countries via a vibrant discussion forum, where participants have shared exemplar stories of business innovation and raised provocative questions about the purpose of business. Using a collaborative virtual space created by the Center's technology partners at iCohere, Inc., these events offered a unique environment where participants could attend from their homes or offices around the world as their schedules permitted. Stuart Hart, the S.C. Johnson Chair of Sustainable Global Enterprise and Professor of Management at Cornell University’s Johnson School of Management and author of "Capitalism at the Crossroads: The Unlimited Business Opportunities in Solving the World’s Most Difficult Problems", kicked off BAWB Colloquium Series in 2005. For Stu, the answer to the question of ideal relationship between business and society is simple: “We should start on a note of consonance.It is not about more philanthropy and shaming people into doing things because it is the right thing to do - it is about creating a new level of commerce.” Read more>> |

Jane Nelson, a Senior Fellow and Director of the Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and Director, Business Leadership and Strategy at the Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) continued the series in 2006 with ideas on Leveraging Public and Private Sectors to Produce Powerful Global Change. "Nation states aren't getting it right and business doesn't have all the solutions either. Prahalad, the Paul and Ruth McCracken Distinguished University Professor of Corporate Strategy at the University of Michigan Business School, introduced ideas and examples of using innovation and entrepreneurship to develop sustainable solutions to global poverty. Prahalad, one of the best known management scholars of our time, authored the international bestseller "The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid: Eradicating Poverty through Profits," in which he writes, "I do not want the poor of the world to be a constituency. 2008-2009 Colloquium Series opened with a multiple-speaker event, titled Beyond Synergy: A Partnership Between The United Nations Global Compact and Northeast Ohio. Hosted by Chuck Fowler, CEO of Fairmount Minerals, and David Cooperrider, Ph.D., Fairmount Minerals Professor in Social Entrepreneurship, and Founder & Chair, Case’s Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit, the event explored the regional benefits of joining the Global Compact on November 29, 2007, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Weatherhead School of Management’s George S.
